IT Rookie of the Year

This award recognizes a relative newcomer to the field of IT. The criteria are the same as the IT Professional of the Year, with the added requirement that recipients have five or fewer years of IT experience if under 30, or two or fewer years of IT experience if over 30.

The birthday cutoff for age is July 1.

Keyboard Warrior

Recognizes a frequent commenter (full of interesting and/or funny commentary) on the Listserv / Discord Server(s). These folks contribute to the Mi-GMIS community by sharing a laugh and/or valuable information.

IT Project of the Year

Internal efficiency or public-facing innovation.

New this year, Mi-GMIS has expanded our IT Project of the Year Award, so your organization has a great chance of winning.

There will now be two awards for each of the four member size categories recognized by GMIS International. There will be one award for the best internally-focused project, and one award for the best externally-focused project in each of the size categories.

Internally-focused projects are those that are meant to improve the organization itself.  Examples would include but not be limited to IT security projects, new solution implementations, or strategy generation.

Externally-focused projects are those intended to directly benefit the community. Examples here would be apps offered to the public allowing increased access to services, public WiFi, or making staff available to help with citizen technology challenges.

Criteria examined will include:

  • Team collaboration
  • Organization / Citizen impact
  • New skill development
  • Met schedule and budget
  • Problem solving or proactive
  • Rating of the project by its beneficiaries
  • Shareability of the project or its result

*If you don't know your organization size category, don't worry; we'll match nominations to GMIS International size categories.

Mi-GMIS presents these awards each year to encourage and recognize excellence in the government IT field.  The awards are presented at the annual fall conference.
